993,553. Suction cleaners. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 31, 1961 [Oct. 31, 1960 No. 37312/60. Heading A4F. [Also in Division F2] In a vacuum cleaner of the kind in which a rotary brush located in the suction nozzle is driven by the suction fan motor, and which has an adaptor for coupling a flexible hose to an independent suction nozzle, the adaptor 3 is provided with a transverse member 14 which, when the adaptor is fitted into position in an opening 2 in the cleaner casing 1, displaces a driving belt 7 for the rotary brush (not shown) from a driving pulley 9 on the motor shaft 6 on to an idler pulley 11. On withdrawing the adaptor the belt is returned by its tension to the driving pulley 9.
