[Also in Division B7] A cutter for grass or other vegetable matter is supported on a cushion of air. As shown, the cutter comprises an internal combustion engine or electric motor 12 driving a rotary cutter member 20 and a compressor disc 12 (these may be driven by separate motors) having blades 15a which direct air from a grille 19 through an annular duct 14 between an inner casing 11a and an outer casing 10 to an annular, inwardly directed opening 14a. The hover height may be varied by varying the speed of the motor 12 or by varying the width of the opening 14a, and the cutter may be propelled by an appropriately directed jet of air from the compressor. A compartment may be formed within the housing 11 for receiving cut grass or other vegetable matter, connected to the bars 11b by a duct.
