Abstract
Wet-spun acrylonitrile polymer aquagel filaments are passed through a heated dyebath and stretched white immersed therein. The filaments may be stretched at a ratio of at least 1.5 : 1, preferably between 5 : 1 and 10 : 1. The temperature of the dyebath is preferably 90-100 DEG C. Before entering the dyebath the aquagel filaments may optionally be stretched (at a maximum ratio of 1.6 : 1) and/or heated at 70-110 DEG C. The specified dyes which may be used are vat, direct, metallized, basic, acid, azoic, acetate, reactive and ingrain dyes. The acrylonitrile polymer may contain up to 20% by weight of other copolymerisable monomers (many specified) and may be spun from an aqueous zinc chloride solution into an aqueous zinc chloride coagulating bath. Examples are given.
