A fare ticket printing and issuing machine comprises a housing 1 enclosing rotary printing mechanism 4, a counter 29, a set of differentially toothed coaxial fare discs 24 axially slidable on a shaft 37 and driven from the printing mechanism, means 32 to positively couple the discs 24 to the shaft 37, and means 16. . .19 actuated by a manual setting lever 2, to move the set of discs so as to select one for driving the counter 29 at the same time as a type wheel 11 is set by a toothed sector 14 integral with lever 2, the machine housing comprising a sealable plate 39 in alignment with shaft 37 to simplify withdrawal of the set of fare discs 24 when fares are revised. An indicator plate 41, adjacent lever 2, can also be replaced. The paper roll is housed in the base of the machine and tickets, after printing, are severed against a fixed edge. Instead of employing a cam 19 to transmit axial movement from lever 2, a cord pulling against spring means, or a tooth and worm arrangement may be employed.
