Abstract

Polyvinyl resin foam, e.g. polyvinyl chloride foam, may be produced by heating a mixture of the polyvinyl resin, dicyclohexyl phthalate, di(methylcyclohexyl)phthalate or cyclohexyl methylcyclohexyl phthalate and a blowing agent to a temperature at which the blowing agent boils or decomposes and cooling the product. The mixing may be carried out at an elevated temperature. 20-40% may be used. The blowing agent may be azodicarbonamide. A stabilizer and an activator for the blowing agent may also be present. White lead may function as both activator and stabilizer. The foaming temperature may be 170 DEG C. The product may be rigid and flame resistant. In Example (2) the phthalate is a mixed ester of the three methyl cyclohexanols.
