Abstract

991,160. Machine tool details. MELBRO MACHINE TOOLS Ltd. Sept. 11, 1961 [Sept. 12, 1960], No. 31269/60. Headings B3B and B3C. A portable post assembly for locating a machine tool comprises convex and concave bearing surfaces respectively on the post 10 and a magnetic base 15 whereby the post may be adjusted angularly. The post carries a drilling or tapping machine or the quill thereof and rack- and-pinion means for moving the machine parallel to, or at a slight angle to, the axis of the post. The base 15 includes induction windings and is formed with a circular recess in which a plate 19 may be rotatably adjusted. The plate 19 carries an eccentric pin 23 engaging a split bearing-plate 24 formed with the dove-tailed concave groove in which a flange 11 of the post 10 is received. Thus, the post 10 can be adjusted angularly in a vertical plane by movement of the flange 11, laterally by movement of the eccentric pin 23 and angularly in a horizontal plane by rotation of the plate 19. In a modification, the plate 19 is omitted and the peg 23 is mounted on the base 15. Ball castors may protrude from the body 15 to allow movement of the base, the castors being retracted when the magnetic coils are energized. Specification 874,095 is referred to.
