Abstract

990,825. Conveyers. D. W. BINGHAM & CO. PROPRIETARY Ltd. Dec. 12, 1961 [Dec. 12, 1960], No. 44467/61. Heading B8A. Cans 4 are transferred from an endless feed conveyer 2 to a main conveyer 17 by a screw conveyer 8 which spaces the cans and by a rotatable spider wheel 18 which cooperates with an endless conveyer 24. As each can leaves the feed conveyer 2 and enters a slideway 11, a V-shaped gap is provided between adjoining cans sufficient to receive the the leading end portion of a helical rib 14 formed by a pair of rods of which the spacing increases as they approach the discharge end of the slideway 11 and screw conveyer. The spacing of the cans is thus also increased before they are picked up by the spider wheel 18 which comprises a pair of plates 15 provided with can seats 19. The cans are deposited on a skid plate 22 from where they are transferred by the discharge conveyer 24 to the main conveyer 17. The tendency for the cans to topple backwardly towards the spider wheel as the discharge conveyer engages them is. counteracted by overhanging portions of side walls 21 of the can seats, the tops of the cans being given a side thrust in the same direction of movement as that of the discharge conveyer.
