Abstract

990,443. Pneumatic despatch apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. May 10, 1963 [May 14, 1962], No. 18571/63. Heading B8A. In a pneumatic tube system particularly for lightweight carriers in which the tube has a number of sections A, B, C, operating at different pressures and separated by normally closed flap valves 1 arranged between pressure and suction ducts 4, 5, means such as a contacts 2 are arranged to detect the approach of a carrier towards the flap valves 1 whereby the direction of air flow is temporarily reversed between the ducts 4, 5 so that the flap valves 1 fall open to permit the carrier to pass. A second flap valve 3 is arranged to seal off the sections C when the flap valve 1 is opened and re-opens as the flap valve 1 closes after passage of the carrier.
