Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of general formula <FORM:0990092/C2/1> wherein R1 stands for a halogen atom or a methoxy, ethoxy, methyl or ethyl group, and R2 and R3 each stand for a methyl or ethyl group, and wherein the bonds shown as broken lines denote that the substituents attached thereby are optional; and their acid addition salts; and their preparation (1) by reducing corresponding 3 - (b - nitro - alkyl) - indoles with zinc dust in the presence of aqueous ammonium chloride, or (2) when R1 is not halogen and R2 is absent, by reacting a corresponding 3-(b -keto-alkyl)-indole with hydroxylamine forming a 3-(b -hydroxylimino-alkyl)-indole which is then catalytically reduced. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise compounds of the invention with carriers. Enteral and parenteral administration of tablets, capsules, dragees, suppositories, solutions, emulsions and suspensions is mentioned. The compounds are appetite suppressants.
