Abstract

Acrylic fibres of copolymers containg more than 80% acrylonitrile are dye with cationic dyes in an aqueous dyebath to which has been added less than 10 g/l monochlorobenzene emulsified, e.g. with a nonionic emulsifier, at temperatures of 70-90 DEG C. The dyed fibres may be steamed or dry heated above 100 DEG C when the volatile carrier is removed. The specified nonionic emulsifiers are polyoxyethylene alkyl ethers, polyoxyethylene alhylphenol ethers, fatty acid diethanolamides, anhydrous sorbitol fatty acid esters/ethylene oxide addition products. Examples are given in which a number of dyes are specified.
