989,126. Variable-speed ratchet gear; linkwork. COLLINGHAM & OWEN Ltd., and G. L. STANLEY. April 3, 1964 [Jan. 4, 1963], No. 448/63. Headings F2D and F2K. A variable-speed ratchet gear for driving a conveyer belt comprises a continuously rotating crank disc C with a pin B engaging a slotted oscillating link D having an adjustable fulcrum E to which is secured an arm P attached to a vertical link R operating the arm M of a oneway ratchet clutch on a driven shaft 0. As shown the pin E is adjustable by a horizontal slide H, but in a modification, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the pin is carried by an adjustable eccentric. The arrangement may be adapted for reciprocating motion by replacing the ratchet clutch and shaft by a bell crank or other suitable linkage.
