Abstract

988,486. Tyre building apparatus. P. & D. CORPORATION. Nov. 16, 1963, No. 45322/63. Heading B7C. In apparatus for applying an unvulcanized sidewall strip to a vulcanized tyre 34 and comprising discs 30, 40, coaxially mounted on a shaft 4 fixed to a base 1, whose peripheries are shaped to receive the tyre beads 35, the sidewall to receive the strip is supported by a vulcanizing ring 11, a ring 48 being detachably and adjustably mounted on the shaft for contacting the other sidewall to retain the tyre abutting the ring 11. The strip is supported between ribs on the ring 11, and the tyre is inflated during vulcanizing by air supplied through tubing 54, a valve 56 being provided for release of air. The ring 11 may be electrically or steam heated. The distance between the discs 30, 40 is adjustably controlled by a nut 45 screwthreaded on to the shaft.
