In a gear-finishing machine, a work-table is rocked by means including a shaft 42 engaging a rotatably-adjustable slideway 51 at one end, there being means, such as a further slideway 50 or a button, for urging the shaft axially in one direction of work traverse to maintain the shaft in engagement with the slideway 51. The machine is fully described in Specification 987,972 and is similar to that described in Specification 943,478.
