987,864. Dynamic balancing apparatus. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 13, 1961 [July 21, 1960], No. 25383/60. Heading G1X. In a dynamic balancing machine, supports 3 for the work 4 to be balanced comprise bearings formed by balls 9 between upper and lower races 6 and each race has a groove 7 shaped so that the supports 3 tend to assume a central position due to gravity, while the lower races are mounted on carriers 5 through elastic pads 10 to ensure an even load distribution. The work 4 or its shaft, Fig. 1 (not shown), may be rotatably mounted in half bearings 8 or in whole bearings. To prevent the supports 3 from lifting due to tilting of the work 4, a cable 18 may be secured to supports 3 and to thrust bearings 21. An extension 11 to each support 3 normally floats freely between two set screws 12 to be clamped therebetween during loading and unloading. One screw 12 of each pair may be provided with an adjustable, spring urged pad 16 to engage extension 11 and damp the movement of the support 3.
