In a mineral-mining and loading machine there is mounted at the forward end of a self propelled chassis having a central, rearwardly extending conveyer a digging and loading unit which comprises at least a pair of jibs 12 mounted for mutual angular displacements by hydraulic rams 33, 37 about vertical axes and so provided with circulating, endless cutting and loading chains that the plane of each chain is forwardly and downwardly inclined. Preferably the digging and loading unit is pivotable on the chassis about a horizontal axis.
