A sliver can of the type having a sliver plate 11 supported by a loading spring 12 has a central aperture 14 with a flange 15 therearound to allow dust and dirt to fall into the base of the can. There may be a hole or holes 21 in the base of the can for the dust &c. to fall into a dirt collecting box or ducting.
