Abstract
985,593. Adjusting radio apparatus. MOTOROLA Inc. Dec. 11, 1962 [Dec. 21, 1961], No. 46659/62. Heading H3Q. A push-button tuning mechanism for a radio receiver comprises a sliding bar 14 having a push-button 10 secured to one end, a further bar or rod 20 detachably secured in sliding relation to said bar 14, there being a pivot pin 22 on said rod 20 upon which a cam 24 whose angular setting determines the receiver tuning when the push-button is depressed is removably mounted, a locking lever 30 having one end detachably secured to the rod 20 so as to hold the cam 24 on the pivot 22, and means forming part of the sliding bar 14, whereby when the bar 14 is moved in one direction with respect to the rod 20 by depression of the push-button 10, the other end of the locking lever 30 is moved so as to lock the cam 24 against rotational motion on its pivot 22, while when the bar 14 is moved in the opposite direction by withdrawal of the push-button, said other end of the locking lever 30 is released so as to permit rotation of the cam 24. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the rod 20 is coupled to the bar 14 by means of a downwardly-turned lug 18 thereon which engages within a longitudinal slot 16 in the bar 14. The lever 30 is held to the rod 20 by its end 32 passing through a slot in an upwardly-turned portion of the rod 20, thus preventing removal of the cam 24 from its pivot pin 22. In the position shown with the pushbutton depressed and the right-hand end of slot 16 engaging the lug 18, the left-hand end of lever 30 is engaged by a hook-shaped member 38 formed integrally with the rod 14, thus depressing this end of the lever towards rod 20 against the action of spring 25 and causing its right-hand end to bear on cam 24 to prevent rotation thereof. When the push-button is depressed the cam bears against parallel rods 52 which operate through lever 54 to tune the receiver as shown in Fig. 2. To effect adjustment of the cam 24, the push-button 10 is withdrawn so that the lug 18 engages the lefthand end of slot 16. The hook 38 then slides over the raised end of lever 30 to a position, Fig. 4 (not shown) wherein it no longer engages the lever which is consequently pushed upwards by the spring 25 so as to release the cam 24. The receiver may then be tuned manually and depression of the push-button will then lock the cam 24 in a position corresponding to the selected tuning setting. In an alternative arrangement, the slot 16 is omitted from the bar 14 and the rod 20 is shaped as shown in Fig. 11 so that the bar 14 slides through the slot 82 in the down-turned portion 80. Movement of the bar 14 is limited in one direction by the tongue 90 and in the other direction by shoulders on the bar 14 which engage the portion 80. Movement may also be limited, Fig. 7 (not shown), by a projection on the lever 30 which engages against the hook 28.
