985,026. Selective signalling systems. J. C. MACKEEN. May 25, 1961 [Nov. 23, 1960, No. 18970/61. Heading G4H. A location to be monitored includes a tape unit 8 having one or more magnetic or punched tapes carrying randomly selected code groups, an identical tape unit 2 is situated at a remote location, each tape unit being advanced one position after each interrogation and response, a comparator 5 giving an alarm indication if the code groups from the two tape units are not identical. Alarm detector elements 14 are arranged to modify the code group supplied by tape unit 8 when an alarm condition occurs. Instead of transmitting complete code groups, generator 9 may merely transmit an indication as to whether the code group being read from tape unit 8 is even or odd, or the sum of the groups is even or odd where more than one tape is being read. Communication may be over telephone wires.
