Abstract

A film- and fibre-forming polyester is made by transesterifying a dialkyl ester of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid with 4,41-dimethylol diphenyl oxide and polycondensing the resulting product. Specified acids are terephthalic, isophthalic, 1 : 2-diphenylethane-4 : 41-dicarboxylic and 4 : 41-diphenic acid. In the example, dimethyl terephthalate is reacted with 4 : 41-dimethylol diphenyl oxide.
