Abstract

984,626. Transformers and inductors. FERRANTI Ltd. Feb. 17, 1964 [Feb. 23, 1963], No. 7382/63. Heading HIT. At least one wall 1 of a tank for inductive apparatus is provided with one or more stiffeners each comprising a rigid beam 2 loosely secured at intervals along its length to the wall 1, the beams 2 being spaced from the wall by a resilient layer 4 such that the wall 1 is free to vibrate in a damped manner, but distortion is limited by beams 2. Steel pads 5 limit the distortion of the walls 1 when the tank is evacuated during manufacture of the inductive apparatus. The stiffeners may be vertical, horizontal or at an angle, or a combination of these, including continuous around the corners of the tank.
