A pneumatic or hydraulic slide valve 10 for periodically and automatically reversing the direction of fluid flow which moves between two positions and is held in either position by locking means 17, has an inlet 2 and one or a plurality of pressure medium delivery passages 3, 4 and is displaced by pistons 27, 28, valves 16 on the ends of the slide valve closing orifices 29 through the pistons which together form closures of respective cavities 25 to which pressure medium passes via adjustable throttles 24 or from which it flows freely to atmosphere via orifices 29 after each slide valve displacement.
