Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0984365/C2/1> (wherein R1 stands for an alkyl or alkoxy-carbonylmethyl radical, R2 stands for an alkyl radical and R3 stands for an alkoxy radical), and their preparation by reacting R4NHCONH2 (wherein R4 stands for an alkyl, alkoxycarbonylmethyl or carboxymethyl radical) with R2COCH2COR3 and 5-nitro-2-furaldehyde, or a dialkanoyl derivative of 5-nitro-2-furaldehyde hydrate, under acidic conditions, the reaction being carried out in the appropriate alkanol when R4 stands for a carboxymethyl radical. The compounds of the invention are active against viruses of the psittacosis-lymphogranuloma-trachoma group. The Provisional Specification defines the invention in wider terms.
