Heading F1K In an electric starter, having an axially-movable armature 1, in which a piston 6, Fig. 1, is secured to a rotatable cylindrical part 4, at least one of a pair of angularly-spaced and axially-offset spring- loaded plungers engages in a part-circumferential groove 9, Fig. 2, when the starter is not in use and when the pinion is rotated the plungers are moved out of the groove to allow the pinion to engage toothed wheel 7. In another embodiment the plungers are replaced by spring-loaded pivoted levers.
