983,831. Centrifugal pumps; gas turbine jet propulsion plant. DOWTY FUEL SYSTEMS Ltd. June 6, 1961 [June 15, 1960(2)], Nos. 21055/60 and 21056/60. Headings F1C and F1J. [Also in Division G3] A centrifugal pump 3 supplies fuel through a conduit 9, a metering orifice 43 and a port 47 to the afterburners of an aircraft gas turbine engine and its delivery is controlled by an inlet valve 7 actuated by a servo-piston 12 under the control of a valve 21 which is actuated by a diaphragm 26 subject to the pressure difference across the metering orifice so that the pressure difference is maintained constant. The degree of opening of the metering orifice is determined by a servo-piston 48 under the control of a valve 54 subject to the action of a feedback spring 58 and gas pressures in the engine applied to bellows 56, 57. Alternatively the valve 54 may be manually operated. To stop the flow of afterburning fuel an electrically operated pilot's control valve 69 is closed to cause depression of a servopiston 64 which interrupts communication between conduits 39, 41 and vents the conduit 41 and pump inlet to a port 73, thereby causing a second pump inlet valve 34 to be closed by a spring 38. The servo-piston 64 also vents the delivery conduit 9 of the pump through passages 61, 77, 79.
