981,230. Boring bars. R. FRITZSCHE, and W. K. M. KLEINE. March 19, 1962 [March 22, 1961], No. 10359/62. Heading B3C. A boring bar comprises a member 3 secured to a tube 2, a cutting bit 9, and two guides 11. Each guide 11 has a lower part 16 of hard material, and a part 17 split at 18 to form portions 12<SP>1</SP> and 14<SP>1</SP> of softer material. Wedgeshaped channels 13 are formed by guides 11 and cutter 9 and the pressure of the coolant supplied between the boring bar and the hole is built up in these wedges. The boring bar may have more than one cutting bit. The cuttings 7 are removed through a channel 6.
