Abstract

980,075. Filters. MARCONI CO. Ltd. Feb. 15, 1961 [May 23, 1960], No. 18088/60. Heading H1W. [Also in Division H4] A filter comprises a 3 db. directional coupler the four ports of which comprise an input, an output and two reactive terminations. The coupler comprises two parallel conductors C1, C2 arranged in a conductive casing C3 with input and output at opposite ends. The reactive terminations T1, T2 comprise respectively a coaxial stub which is one quarter-wavelength long at the cut-off frequency and a section of coaxial line the length of which determines the characteristics of the filter. The operation of the filter depends upon the difference in the phase reflection coefficients of the terminations and these may be arranged to give low-pass, high-pass or band-pass characteristics. In the diplexing arrangement of Fig. 4, two such filters F1, F2 are arranged in the connections between two pairs of corresponding arms of hybrid networks H1, H2. The latter may comprise directional couplers similar to the ones used in the filters. The characteristics required of the filters depends upon the mode of connection of the two generators, the load and the balancing impedance to the terminals 1 to 4.
