Abstract

980,035. Sewing machines. G. M. PFAFF A.G. Feb. 27, 1963 [Feb. 28, 1962], No. 7854/63. Heading D1G. Mechanism for controlling the movements of a work-holder in two co-ordinate directions is housed in the standard of the machine, drive being transmitted from said mechanism to the holder via two parallel shafts arranged within the upper arm of the machine, and a member which extends from the shafts to the holder through an opening in the underside of the arm. A lower shaft 26, driven by a pulley 25, is connected by a chain 31 to the upper needle-driving shaft 10. The latter also drives perforated tape 11 controlling mechanism 6, 7, 8 for automatically moving the work-holder 24. A pair of shafts 12,13, driven by said mechanism, are coupled to a pair of arm shafts 14,15. Shaft 14 is in screw-threaded engagement with a member 16. Shaft 15 is formed with longitudinal teeth engaged with a rack member 21 transversely slidable in member 16. The latter extends downwardly through an opening 18 in the underside of the upper arm 4, and is connected to the work-holder 24 by a member 22. Shaft 26 is coupled by gears 33, 35 to a shaft 34 driving the looptaker 36. Specification 980, 034 is referred to.
