Abstract

979,205. Bottle crates. FISHER & LUDLOW Ltd. Sept. 4, 1963 [Sept. 7, 1962], No. 34890/63. Heading B8P. A crate, formed of a one-piece synthetic plastics moulding, has partitions 5 and reinforcing elements 6 formed integrally with the base. The elements 6 may be cylindrical as shown in Fig. 3 or may be of star-formation (Fig. 5) or, as shown in Fig. 7, they may be of cruciform shape. Openings 10 (Fig. 5) and 22 (Fig. 3) facilitate draining the crate. The upper edge 17 (Fig. 3) slopes inwardly and in conjunction with a rib 15 facilitates stacking one crate on another. Ribs 11, 12 reinforce the crate walls and also handholes 20 in the end walls. Ribs 13, 14 reinforce the base. When cylindrical elements 6 are provided they may be slotted longitudinally to act resiliently and so prevent damage to the bottles. Fig. 7 shows four alternative forms for the crate base which may comprise a trellis 27 or a sheet having circular holes 29 or cutouts 30 therein.
