A carton has a deformable portion at a corner thereof which comprises a spout panel 12 separable from the adjacent carton walls along its margins and a trigger panel 12a hingedly connected to said walls, the trigger panel when depressed forces the spout panel outwardly in a substantially V-shaped formation to define a pouring opening, and a lining adhesively attached juxtaposed to the walls adjacent the deformable portion has margins jutting beneath and beyond the margins of the spout panel to provide lips 39 which limit the pouring opening and brace the walls adjacent the deformable portion against inward pressure on the trigger panel. Said panels are divided by a V-fold line 16; the spout panel, having a recess 23, is defined by slits 15 with bridges 21, and the trigger panel is defined by scores 15a, 15b. Unweakened ligaments 17, 19 are provided to avoid breaking the carton corner when the spout has been opened and closed a number of times. The panels 31, 33 of a blank, Fig. 6, underlie the panels 32, 30 respectively and are glued together along glue lines 26, 24 to form a double ply construction. When closed the recess 23 rides under a projection 25 in the outer ply, to retain the spout in the closed position. The centre line of the spout portion may be partly scored, and the inner ply may have a fold or hinge line 45 which forms an inwardly arched curved portion, and thus minimizes the tendency of the outer ply to crack at the corner of the carton. An alternative blank may have only one flap having two glue-lines thereon.
