Abstract

976,234. Brake drums. RALEIGH INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 18, 1963 [Feb. 3, 1962], No. 4250/62. Heading F2E. [Also in Division B7] In a brake hub assembly for cycles a brake drum 11 is provided with a braking surface formed by an insert 11b, a rebate portion being formed at the outer edge of the braking surface and a plurality of holes 11d are provided through the drum and extend radially outwardly from the rebate portion and an end closure member formed by a brake plate 12 which is non- rotatably secured to the rear forks of the cycle in a close but free fit in the open end of the drum. Securing lugs 11f are formed at the outer surface of the drum for attachment to a wheel. The brake is applied by a cam member 13a<SP>1</SP> which is adapted to spread apart brake shoes 13c pivoted on a pin 13b. Any water passing into the interior of the assembly of the brake through the narrow gap between a lip 12d and the rebate portion of the drum 11b will tend to accumulate in the channel 12e and upon rotation of the drum the water will be thrown outwardly through the holes 11d.
