Abstract

976,110. Radiation measuring apparatus. R. A. STEPHEN & CO. Ltd. May 14, 1963 [May 21, 1962], No. 19462/62. Heading H5R. A dosimeter includes a radiation-sensitive element 22, e.g. glass containing silver phosphate, an inner casing comprising two separable parts 13, 20 and a resilient member 21 engaged between adjacent surfaces 13a, 20a of the parts, and an outer casing comprising two portions 10, 17 respectively engaging the inner casing parts and being relatively rotatable for imposing pressure on the surfaces, at least one of the parts 13, 20 having localized engagement with its associated outer casing portion, e.g. as at 10a, so as to permit relative rotation. Preferably lead shields 12, 18 are provided between the inner casing parts and their respective outer casing portions. The outer casing portions are preferably moulded from a synthetic plastic. In operation, the radiation dissociates the phosphate, and by using special reading apparatus, e.g. optical, the amount of of dissociation can be measured.
