Abstract
975,946. Hot-water boilers. J. BAGULEY'S SONS (1932) Ltd. Oct. 4, 1961 [Nov. 10, 1960], No. 38580/60. Heading F4A. A water storage cylinder 10, in which water for a secondary system is heated by a closed circuit primary water system including a water heater external to the cylinder and a calorifier within the cylinder, incorporates a continuous air and water conduit 15 for the initial filling and subsequent replenishment of the primary system from the secondary, the conduit extending out of the cylinder 10 to a valve 16, whereby foreign matter may be cleared from the conduit 15, e.g. by rodding, without dismantling the cylinder 10. The calorifier consists of an annular portion 11 closed at the bottom and opening at the top into a cylinder 12. A short open-ended pipe 18 extends up through the cylinder 12 from the space 11a enclosed by the annulus 11 and having its lower surface above the level of the upper primary circuit pipe 14. The conduit 15 has vents 17 and an open lower end. To fill the systems, water is fed into the secondary system and flows into the primary system through the conduit 15 whose valve 16 is left open until reached by the water level, the valve then being closed so that an air lock is formed in the space 11a and in the top portion of the calorifier. The conduit 15 then allows for expansion in the primary system due to heating.
