Abstract
975,536. Strainers. T. W. POND. May 8, 1963 [June 16, 1962], No. 23258/62. Heading F2G. A device adapted for loosening and retightening binding material, e.g. string securing a parcel, consists of a flat rigid plate with two parallel slots cut in from opposite edges of the plate and perpendicular to a straight line AB through a point of rotation R of the plate, the closed ends of the slots lying on this line at two points equidistant from the point of rotation, and with two holes, each close to a slot, lying in a straight line XY through the point of rotation Rand equidistant from it. When the string is taut it lies in the ends of the slots. To loosen the string, the device is rotated about the point R and the slots slide along the string until it escapes through the open ends of the slots; then the device is rotated back again so that the string is freed from its bent position and becomes slack. In a modification, Fig. 3, a converging slot is cut from the edge of the plate into each hole, through which the string can be squeezed, to obviate threading.
