[Also in Divisions F1, F3, G3 and G4] A fluid switch or amplifier, (see Division G3), comprises a main jet stream which can be biased along an adjacent surface by a boundary layer effect. Fig. 4 shows the invention applied to the control of a punch 59 operating on a strip of metal or other material 52. A set of three of asymmetrical fluid switches 15, 17, 18 and 151, 171, 181 and 152, 172, 182 are arranged in series and in parallel with a fourth fluid switch 153, 173, 183. The power jet from the nozzle 15 would exhaust out of passage 18 but the presence of metal strip between the rollers 53 gives rise to a control signal at nozzle 16 so that the power jet is diverted to passage 17. The power jet passes to passages 171, 172 only if the nozzles 161, 162 impose control signals caused by ports 69, 69a being blocked by the palms of the operator's hands. A control signal is thus fed to the nozzle 163 so that the power jet from the nozzle 153 is diverted to the passage 173 and passes via conduit 70 to depress the piston 156 and actuate the punch 59.
