Abstract

974,825. Road making machines. PHOENIX ENGINEERING CO. Ltd., and NORMAN W. DUNN & CO. Ltd. April 22, 1963 [July 11, 1962], No. 26626/62. Heading E1G. A device for spreading road materials such as bituminous slurries comprises a rectangular frame 1 mounted for vertical adjustment by screwed handles 3 on skids (not shown) for towing behind a mixing machine. A vertically adjustable screed 8 levels the slurry which may be intermittently or continuously fed to the area between the front frame member and the screed 8 and a rubber flange (not shown) on the rear frame member 2 acts as a surface finishing member. The member 2 is hinged and carries handles 6 so that the flange may be lifted clear of the road surface at the end of a run. Similar flanges (not shown) along the front and side frame members minimise leakage of slurry thereunder.
