Abstract
974,765. Travelling-wave tubes. TELEFUNKEN A.G. Feb. 24, 1961 [Feb. 24, 1960], No. 6862/61. Heading H1D. In an electron beam tube with a periodic focusing system which is non-rotationally symmetrical about the axis of the tube, thus causing the beam to follow a helical path, e.g. a travelling-wave tube with interleaved helices 4, 5 which also serve as the delay line, the electron gun 8 is radially offset, or inclined, or both offset and inclined to direct the beam to a point on the helical path which the beam is caused to follow. Alternatively, the gum may be coaxial with the tube and the beam directed on to the helical path by an electrode diaphragm positioned between the gun and the boundary plane 7.
