Abstract

974,065. Transistor amplifying circuits. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSONHOUSTON. July 19, 1962 [July 21, 1961], No. 27836/62. Heading H3T. In an amplifier including a transistor from which an output is obtained across a pair of its electrodes, the gain is controlled by varying the current flow between, and the voltage drop across the pair of electrodes, the variations being so correlated as to maintain the input and output impedances of the transistor substantially constant with changes in gain. As described, Fig. 4, an amplifier comprises three similar stages each supplied with a gaincontrol voltage, which may be automatic gain control, from a source P. Stage 1, for example, comprises a common emitter transistor T1 having an inductive load L11 which includes a winding n1 connected in a stabilizing feed-back path to the base. The control source P has a first output A connected to vary the base potential, and hence the collector current, of T1 and a second output B connected to the collector via resistor R14 to vary the collector potential. By adjusting the values of R41, R42 the ratio of the voltage at A to that at B may be arranged so that variation of gain of the transistor T1 is achieved without substantial variation in input and output impedances of the transistor.
