Abstract
973,522. Plaster of Paris bandages. T. J. SMITH & NEPHEW Ltd. June 24, 1963 [July 9, 1962], No. 26277/62. Heading A5R. A method of making a plaster of Paris bandage for use for making surgical casts comprises (Fig. 1) continuously passing an open-mesh fabric 11 through a box of plaster of Paris slurry 8, spreading the coating with doctor blade 9 and then passing the fabric 11 over bar 14 and in forced contact therewith to cause the coating to break up into blobs or droplets which occupy and project from some of the interstices of the fabric 11 whilst other interstices remain as apertures through the fabric and then drawing the coated fabric away for drying and subsequent reeling. The coating is greater than 390 grams per sq. m. The fabric may be passed under the bar or passed over one bar and then under a second bar. The bar may be fixed or rotating. The fabric may be of woven glass fibres.
