A machine for shrinking a fabric 1 comprises a pair of rollers C, C<SP>1</SP>, a resilient endless band C<SP>2</SP> passing about the rollers C, C<SP>1</SP>, a plate D supporting the band C<SP>2</SP> between the rollers C, C<SP>1</SP>, a heated stationary plate B and a delivery roller D<SP>1</SP> which is arranged at the end of the channel formed between the band C<SP>2</SP> and plate B and rotates at a slower speed than the rollers C, C<SP>1</SP>. The plate B is associated with a hydraulic cylinder B<SP>2</SP> whereby its distance from the band C<SP>2</SP> may be adjusted. The delivery roller D<SP>1</SP> and the rollers C, C<SP>1</SP> may also be adjustable. The delivery roller D<SP>1</SP> may be driven via a variable speed device. A thermometer E indicates the temperature of plate B which may be adjusted according to the fabric being treated.
