Abstract

Melamine is prepared by reacting cyanogen chloride with ammonia at a temperature between 100 and 1000 DEG C. The process may be carried out in the presence or absence of a catalyst and at atmospheric or superatmospheric pressures. Specified catalysts are active carbon, silicic acid, quartz, aluminium oxide, aluminium phosphate and bleaching clay. Examples are given.
