Abstract

972,189. Measuring electrically. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. Feb. 15, 1961, No. 5662/61. Heading G1N. A force to be measured rocks beam 1 about a flexure pivot 6 and the movement is sensed by a differential transformer 9 the output from which is amplified and fed to coil 8, which is attached to the beam and moves in the field of permanent magnet 7, to tend to rebalance the beam, the magnitude of the current through coil 8 being then proportional to the applied force. Alternatively a displacement may be applied to one end of spring 5 the other end of which is fixed to beam 1 to convert the displacement to a force which is measured as described above. The beam displacement sensing may alternatively be capacitive having a differential capacitor connected in a bridge circuit the unbalance voltage of which is used to energize the rebalancing means and the indicator. The force on the beam due to the spring pivot is said to be cancelled by the attraction between the component parts of the position sensing device.
