In a method of crimping yarns or strands of filaments, the yarns &c. are softened and propelled by heated feed rollers into a receptacle in which they accumulate and develop a back pressure opposing the incoming yarns &c. which are thereby buckled or crimped immediately beyond the nip of the rollers. As shown, a strand 1 passing through an eye 2, a guide tube 3, and between electrically heated, adjustably spring-loaded feed rollers 4, 5, Fig. 2 (not shown) is forced through a metal inlet cone 7, a glass tube 6 and an exit funnel 8 movement of which, in response to an excess of filamentary material therein, operates a pivoted, spring-supported lever 9 to close electrical contacts 13 and 14 whereby relay means (not shown) are energized to adjust correctively the speed of withdrawal of the crimped material.
