Abstract

971,481. Tube joints. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Feb. 21, 1963, No. 7025/63. Heading F2G. [Also in Division H1] A sleeve 3, of, e.g., annealed mild steel, is affixed to the end of a tube 1 by means of an adhesive, e.g. an epoxide resin, injected into an annular cavity 5 formed between the sleeve and the tube. The sleeve may form part of the joint between the tube 1 and a similarly sleeved tube 2. The tubes are abutted with their sleeved ends within a jointing sleeve 6 which is affixed to the sleeves 3 by means of adhesive injected into cavities 8. Orifices are provided at suitable positions for injection of the adhesive. During fixing of the jointing sleeve the tubes are held in alignment by clamps which apply axial pressure to the ends of sleeves 3. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the outer sleeve 6 and one of the inner sleeves 3 are formed as an integral element. The tubes may be of circular cross-section.
