Abstract
971, 273. Dummy shuttle looms. M. CLAEGS. April 19, 1962, No. 15208/62. Heading D1E. A loom has a dummy shuttle, picked in both directions to lay single threads, having a yarn gripper comprising a fixed plate and a movable plate actuated by withdrawable abutments on the sley. Dummy shuttle; selvedge forming: (Figs. 8, 10, 12, 19). The shuttle 6 has pivoted levers 8 with cams 8a, 8b on their undersides, the cams of one lever co-operating with withdrawable abutments 18, 23 (Fig. 19) and the cams of the other lever with abutments 24, 25 on the sley. When the levers 8 are up (Fig. 10) the gripper 12, 14 is open and when down closed. In use (Fig. 19) the shuttle is picked to the right, the abutment 18 acts on the cam 8a to lower the lever causing 12, 14 to grip the weft. The weft between the selvedge and shuttle is cut by an edge on the shuttle and the shuttle withdraws weft and lays it in the shed. A brush 21 tucks in the weft end. At the other side of the shed abutment 23 opens the gripper 12, 14 to release the thread. Weft supplying; guiding: (Figs. 14, 18). The weft 2 is guided to the shuttle eye by a pivoted two armed lever 15. Upon release of the weft by the shuttle members 26 are raised to close the selvedge shed on the weft to hold it until beat up. Temples: (Fig. 14). The temple comprises a bent wire 22. Beat up motions; shuttle race: (Figs. 18, 23, 24). The sley 27, pivoted about 28, is driven by rods 30 linked by followers 35 to rods 31 whose ends 32 are adjustable to vary the sley throw. The followers 35 run in tracks 36a of members 36 pivoted at 37 and moved by a crank 39 and con-rod 38. The tracks 36a have a straight portion and a circular portion concentric to the pivots 37. In use for the first 90 degrees of crank 39 revolution the members 36 are pivot but the followers 34 run in the circular portion of the track 36a so that the sley is not moved. For the next 180 degrees of crank revolution the followers 35 run in the straight portion of the track 36a and the sley is advanced and retracted and for the last 90 degrees the follower again runs in the circular portion and the sley is stationary. The sley is thus stationary for 180 degrees of crank movement.
