971,051. Ramps for loading and unloading vehicles. P. C. & C. K. CHASE Ltd., C. Y. HARDIE, and E. W. HARDS. April 25, 1963 [May 3, 1962], No. 17079/62. Headings B8E and B8H. A device for bridging the gap between a lorry and a loading deck comprises a central member 21 mounted at one end on wheels 25 and provided with ramps 22, 23 which are hinged to transverse bars secured to arms 30, 35 pivoted to the member 21 by pin-and-slot connections so that the ramps may be pivoted from a folded position, in which they overlie the member 21, through and beyond a position in which the surfaces of the ramps and member 21 are aligned. Two bars 38 secured to the member 21 project into the space between the lorry and the loading deck to limit movement of the bridging device towards the edge of the lorry platform 51 and serve as handles for use in manipulating the device. Pins 41 are detachably mounted in brackets 43 on the member 21 to limit movement of the device towards the edge 52 of the loading deck. Additional brackets spaced along the sides of the member 21 may be provided.
