Abstract

970,396. Valves. FISHER & LUDLOW Ltd. April 6, 1962 [April 6, 1961], No. 12294/61. Heading F2V. [Also in Division B8] A dispensing device, particularly for delivering measured quantities of milk in a vending machine, comprises a valve body 11 operably associated with the base of a tank 10, an outlet 13 from the valve body provided with a valve seat 14 co-operating with an elongated valve member 15 which is provided with one or more external axially-extending flutes 24, passes through a co-operating ring 19 and has a bore 23 extending through it from the vicinity of the seat to a position open to atmosphere. The valve member 15 may be operated in a measuring chamber 26 by a solenoid 25 so that, in its lowered position, the outlet 13 is closed and the flutes 24 allow the chamber to become filled; in the raised position of the member 15, the ring 19 shuts off the tank from the chamber which empties through the outlet 13. The outlet member 17 and discharge pipe 18 may be connected to a hot water pipe for cleaning purposes and a non-return valve may be fitted to the top of the stem 22 of the valve 15 to prevent the water from overflowing into the tank from the bore 23. Instead of being operated in a vending machine in response to the insertion of coins, the device may be associated with a filling machine and actuated either upon a time cycle or in response to the arrival of a bottle at the filling station. The Provisional Specification describes also the elimination of the measuring chamber 26 so that raising of the valve member will directly open the outlet to the contents of the tank.
