A photographic camera has an exposure control system provided with an electromechanical transducer having a movable output member in a first direction as a function of the intensity of scene light sensed by a photoresponsive element and in an opposite direction when coupled through a switch, to a source of electrical power of the camera. A photoresponsive device 10, e.g., a photoelectric cell, phototransister, photo-voltaic cell or photo-resistive cell is electrically connected with an electrical measuring instrument 11 through a switch 12. A movable member 13 of the instrument 11 is deflected as a function of scene brightness, in known manner, to vary the setting of a diaphragm vane 29 for automatically adjusting exposure value. On moving switch 12 to a second position to engage contacts 16, 17 a battery 18 is placed in circuit with the instrument 11 for measuring the potential difference across the battery. The polarities of the battery 18 and device 10 connections are opposite, thus causing the member 13 to deflect in opposite directions.
