Abstract
970,140. Sootblowers. DIAMOND POWER SPECIALTY Ltd. Sept. 10, 1963 [Oct. 12, 1962], No. 38772/62. Heading F2N. In a soot-blower 3 of the type wherein the lance tube 7 is carried by a rail 8 having a bearing 14 at or adjacent one end which end is positioned in operation adjacent to the outside wall 9 of a boiler and through which bearing the lance tube moves axially into and out of the boiler space, the lance tube being supported at the end 12 thereof remote from the nozzle 11 on a drivable carriage 13 suspended from the rail the distance from the rail of the support of the lance tube end on the carriage is greater than the distance of the bearing from the rail whereby as the carriage approaches the bearing the angle at which the lance tube projects through the bearing as the lance tube passes therethrough steepens, to compensate for the progressively increasing deflection thereof with respect to the boiler tubes 2.
