Abstract
969,906. Crimping pliers. CANNON ELECTRIC CO. April 13, 1961 [Oct. 3, 1960], No. 13300/61. Heading B4W. A tool adapted to crimp a contact terminal 112 for an electrical connector on a conductor wire 118 comprises a tubular housing 12 open at its forward end, the forward portion 28 having a conical inside surface 36, a number of converging jaws 80 in the housing and engageable against the surface 36, actuator means including an actuator bar 40 longitudinally slidable in the housing and engageable against the jaws, forward movement of the actuator means by a pivoted handle lever 20 causing the jaws to be cammed radially inwards against the inside surface 36 of the housing. The tubular portion 60 of the actuator means has a forwardly opening bore to receive the member 112 to be crimped and has radial openings 78 through which, portions of the jaws 80 are movable to engage the member 112. A resilient collet 110, disposed about the portion 60 of the actuating means, engages against the jaws so as to bias them radially outwards. A wedge 126 in a recess 122 is biased against the bar 40 by a compression spring 130 and locks the bar 40 against rearward movement. At the end of the crimping stroke a pin 144 on the actuator engages the end of the wedge and shifts it into non-wedging position. Thereupon a spring- biased pivoted latch 132 engages the wedge and holds it inoperative during return movement. A small arm 46 pivoted on the handle 20, engages a notch 44 at the end of the bar 40 and functions as a toggle link.
