969,486. Furnace recuperators. SOC. D'EQUIPEMENTS THERMIQUES ET DE RECUPERATEURS METALLIQUES (SETREM). Nov. 4, 1960 [Jan. 28, 1960], No. 38046/60. Heading F4S. In a furnace recuperator, the fluid to be heated flows upwardly to a chamber 5 through an annular channel F 2 defined by coaxial tubes 1, 2 and arranged within a refractory lined casing 8, whilst the heating fluid passes in succession through passages F, F 1 formed respectively within and around the channel F 2 and interconnected at their upper ends, e.g. by a space 10. Fins 12 may extend into the passage F 1 either from the outer wall 2 of the passage F 2 (as shown), or from the refractory lining 9 of the casing 8. A heat radiating baffle (not shown) may be arranged in the central passage F. The inner structure comprising the chamber 5 and the walls 1, 2 may be suspended by means of weights (Fig. 4, not shown) or by springs in a manner which permits expansion; or it may be supported on a ring of refractory masonry projecting inwardly from the lining 9 (Fig. 5, not shown). In other modifications described the channels F, F 1 are interconnected by ports extending across the channel F 2 (Fig. 6, not shown), and by external ducting (Fig. 7, not shown).
